Everyone knows that there are businesses that fail every day. There are a number of reasons for a business going under. It could be poor management. Trying to supply an area or niche where there is no demand. Poor customer service. The list goes on and on. While there is a lot that can be said about how to avoid many of these pitfalls (more than I have time to share in this post), I am going to focus on one item: business banking.
Finding the right banking account for your business may not seem like the difference between success and failure, but it can be a huge difference. Not only is it hard to find the place to house your bank accounts for your business because of the large supply of companies, but it’s also hard to know what is most important.
Free Banking Services
One of the first criterion to consider when deciding where to take your business if whether or not there is free business banking. It may not seem like that big of a deal as long as you are getting a good return, but you should never have to pay for someone to earn money off of your account balance. Any business with free business banking is going to have an advantage over another business who is bogged down in fees for its banking services.
Another thing that has become more popular recently is the importance of one-stop shopping. This also applies to banking. My employer not only has a business banking account with the same bank, but also has a line of credit with them. The simple fact is that it is much easier to work with those who you already know. That is why it is important to evaluate the other services that the bank offers when you are deciding where to bank. The other services can include any of the following:
- Savings Account Rates
- Checking Account Rates
- Credit Cards and credit card rewards program
- Online Services
- Loan Services
While you may not think that you will ever use these services at the time of finding the right bank, things can change in a few months and you will be much happier if your bank can provide you these services. Not only is it important to consider checking accounts, savings accounts, credit cards, but also online services and loan services. Having sufficient online service can save you hours of not having to travel, and proper loan services can save you thousands in interest – not to mention utter frustration. Loans for business purposes can be complicated, so you want to make sure that you are working with the right people.
Finding the right bank for your banking need is not necessarily an easy task, but it can be quite manageable if you know what you are looking for. Just make sure to think long-term.
